Danny and his friends are drawn to Hobb Springs, a forgotten resort deep in the West Virginia hills, by a mystery inheritance. Hobb Springs is being looked after by Jackson and Sally, a socially awkward pair who introduce Danny to the long-lost family he has never met. Hillicker is the name of a clan. But Danny soon discovers that his relatives have a different way of life, that the Hillickers have followed old customs steeped in cannibalism and other taboo practices for years.
